Perfectly showcasing Wegner’s affinity for elegant, functional designs - the Carl Hansen & Son CH47 Chair references the simple chairs of the American Shaker movement from the 1800s. Showcasing a solid oak frame with rounded profiles and a hand-woven paper cord seat, this design is both beautiful and timeless; with Wegner’s expert carpentry skills shining through in the study joints.
The CH47 chair’s well thought out design, excellent ergonomics and use of natural materials make it ideally suited for use in entrance halls, dining rooms, public meeting areas and conference halls. This design is also available with an armrest in the Carl Hansen & Son CH46 Chair.
With his love of natural materials and his deep understanding of the need for furniture to be functional as well as beautiful, Hans J. Wegner (1914-2007) made mid-century Danish design popular on an international scale. He began his career as a cabinetmaker in 1931 and subsequently entered the Copenhagen School of Arts & Crafts. After receiving his architectural degree in 1938, he worked as a designer in Arne Jacobsen and Erik Muller's architectural office before establishing his own office in 1943.
