This highly covetable special edition of the iconic Eames lounge chair has been designed in collaboration with Raf Simons, whose Phlox corduroy fabric represents the latest evolution of upholstery design from Kvadrat. When first designing their now-instantly recognisable lounge chair in the mid-1950s Ray and Charles Eames experimented with a number of fabric types and styles. This edition of the chair harks back to those experiments, and is a celebration of the spirit of creative curiousity that defined that period for the pair. The seat of the chair is encased in Vitra’s iconic Santos Palisander wood.
This very unique version of the popular chair also features a pine green aluminium frame, and is only available for a limited amount of time. Only available until 31st January 2024, this special edition looks destined to become a very desirable collector’s piece.
American husband and wife design duo Charles and Ray Eames have had a profound influence on the visual character of American life, producing original work within the fields of architecture, furniture design, industrial design, manufacturing and the photographic arts.
The Eames’ first partnered with Vitra in 1957 to produce some of the most iconic pieces of furniture in the history of interior design. Today Vitra continues to reflect their philosophy on design and functionality, best understood through Charles’ own words: “Recognising the need is the primary condition for the design”.
