Legendary designer Bill Curry’s Stemlite Floor Lamp was inspired by an innovative rethinking of the traditional floor lamp and captured the defining spirit of West Coast America in the 1960s.
Combining durable materials with novel techniques, its geometric profile embodies forward-thinking, contemporary design, whilst its innovative technology enables controlled light to be diffused via its simple rotary dimmer switch located beneath its frosted glass globe. Ideally utilised in a living room, hallway or bedroom, its subtle organic form complements bold modern interior spaces as well as more traditional surroundings, supplementing style and character to your home.
American designer William ‘Bill’ Edwin Curry (1927-1971) captured the zeitgeist of the 1960s and ‘70s with his iconic lamp designs.
Beginning his career as a graphic designer and art director in the aero-tech industry, he launched his own home furnishings company, Design Line Inc in 1962. Credited with developing the first ‘total look’ lamp forms – eliminating the base-bulb-shade concept and instead exploiting the bare bulb in a playful, self-contained unit – he was recognized as one of California’s leading designers by the time he died at the age of just 43.
