Rooted in the early character of Anglepoise’s first lamp designs, the Original 1227 Desk Lamp - Opal Blue + Black edition revisits the bold primary colour combinations of the 1930s. Its gloss-painted blue shade and base bring heritage to the silhouette, balanced by contrasting black elements that draw attention to the precision of its iconic engineering.
Beneath its distinctive Opal Blue finish lies the Original 1227’s constant spring mechanism, allowing you to position the shade with remarkable ease and accuracy. Black nickel-plated springs, satin black arms and a braided black cable add considered detail throughout, while the warm 2700K LED provides focused, comfortable illumination. Place the stylish Original 1227 Desk Lamp beside your favourite chair, on your desk, or in a creative space and enjoy light precisely where you need it.
The English automotive engineer George Carwardine designed the "Anglepoise", a desk lamp, around 1930 and had its innovative construction patented in 1932. The shade is fastened to a long arm, which is jointed in two places. This construction not only makes the lampshade adjustable but also enables users to position the entire lamp in different ways, depending on what source of light is needed. The equilibrium of forces is achieved in all positions to which the lamp can be adjusted by springs, which function on the principle of the muscles in the human arm.
