The minimalist, angular aluminium legs stand in stark contrast to the voluptuous curves of the chair’s seat and backrest. Designed by Simon Legald to mirror the shape of the body, the foam structure cushions and envelops, providing a feeling of sumptuous comfort. The Sorenson leather upholstery adds a touch of authentic luxury to the piece. The Sum Armchair - Leather is a timeless piece of design, perfect for any living or bedroom space. Part of the Normann Copenhagen Sum Collection.
Simon Legald studies design at the The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, and will graduate in the Summer of 2012. His work consists of both small- and large scale products.
“Honesty is what makes a product understandable, and is what describes functionality of the products. If you understand the product, it doesn’t need any explanation. The essence of my design is for it to be bought and used. Therefore it has to satisfy not only the functional aspects, but also the psychological- and aesthetic needs. For me simplicity describes the true identity of objects, and makes them trustworthy. In my designs I try not to add any unnecessary details. I work with simplicity by highlighting the necessities instead of hiding them. It gives the product a simple and honest expression.”
