The Gubi Basket Three Seater Sofa has been reinvented for the modern age, replacing the original design’s fibreglass frame with a steel skeleton which adds strength while reducing the sofa’s environmental impact. The skeleton is covered in an intricate weave of rattan basketry, a unique and eye-catching feature that sets the Basket apart from other pieces. Joe Colombo’s genius is shown in the interlacing of strips and oval stakes, creating voluptuous contours that support sumptuous upholstery.
In his brief but brilliant career, Italian industrial designer Joe Colombo produced a series of innovative designs which made him one of Italy’s most influential Italian product designers of the 20th century.
