Described by Mogensen as a “furniture type of the future”, The Spoke-Back Sofa represents Borge Mogensen’s revisiting and reimagining of his previous designs, by subtly incorporating new, contemporary ideas.
The sofa’s gently curved frame is designed for conversation and socialising as it gracefully angles the users toward one another. Alternatively, one side panel can be lowered and adjusted by convenient leather straps to transform the piece into a chaise lounge. Upholstered in a luxurious fabric, Fredericia have preserved the sofa’s original design and combined it with the latest material technologies and manufacturing techniques, resulting in a truly timeless piece.
Borge Mogensen (1914–1972) started his career as a cabinetmaker in 1934.
In 1936 he went on to study at the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts under Professor Kaare Klint before entering the Royal Academy of Fine Arts from where he graduated as an architect in 1942. He became head of design at FDB (the Danish co-op) in 1942 before establishing his own design office in 1950.
