Profoundly influenced by the principles of Shaker furniture, Borge Mogensen created the Asserbo collection, composed of minimalist yet welcoming pieces of solid wood furniture. Comprised of rounded shapes, and solid structural lines, the various elements of the Carl Hansen & Son BM0699 Asserbo Bench combine together to create a sense of informality that adds a calm touch to your dining or living spaces.
Mogensen's adherence to Shaker principles can be seen in the bench's uncompromising simplicity, with few visual flourishes beyond the subtle brass fittings worked into the legs. Guided by utility and functionality in all things, the Shaker movement inspired generations of designers across the world.
Borge Mogensen (1914–1972) started his career as a cabinetmaker in 1934.
In 1936 he went on to study at the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts under Professor Kaare Klint before entering the Royal Academy of Fine Arts from where he graduated as an architect in 1942. He became head of design at FDB (the Danish co-op) in 1942 before establishing his own design office in 1950.
