Simon Legald’s complete mastery of functionalist design is evident in the Scene Pouf’s clean, geometric lines and disarmingly minimalist aesthetic. Quilted stitching adds an intriguing visual detail, enhancing the piece’s visual impact. In collaboration with Normann Copenhagen, Legald has created a striking, multifunctional piece of contemporary design, bringing a sense of calm and relaxation to your interior spaces. The pouf’s robust construction makes it a perfect impromptu seat or coffee table, adding a new level of flexibility to lounges and seating areas.
Simon Legald studies design at the The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, and will graduate in the Summer of 2012. His work consists of both small- and large scale products.
“Honesty is what makes a product understandable, and is what describes functionality of the products. If you understand the product, it doesn’t need any explanation. The essence of my design is for it to be bought and used. Therefore it has to satisfy not only the functional aspects, but also the psychological- and aesthetic needs. For me simplicity describes the true identity of objects, and makes them trustworthy. In my designs I try not to add any unnecessary details. I work with simplicity by highlighting the necessities instead of hiding them. It gives the product a simple and honest expression.”
