Inspired by the Danish language, in particular, the word "hygge", the Hyg Lounge Chair with High Back is a striking, practical seating solution. Hygge is all about feeling good – security, warmth and comfort all form part of its DNA, and it is precisely these qualities that provide the template for Simon Legald’s design. Providing the utmost comfort and support, constructed from aluminium and upholstered in soft to the touch leather, its effortless lines and encircling contours create a cosy and private space. Boasting high sides that lightly shield off the room, whilst a broad seat makes it possible to assume a wide range of relaxed seating postures, it is the epitome of contemporary comfort, ideally utilised in a living room, office or open-plan space.

Simon Legald studies design at the The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, and will graduate in the Summer of 2012. His work consists of both small- and large scale products.
“Honesty is what makes a product understandable, and is what describes functionality of the products. If you understand the product, it doesn’t need any explanation. The essence of my design is for it to be bought and used. Therefore it has to satisfy not only the functional aspects, but also the psychological- and aesthetic needs. For me simplicity describes the true identity of objects, and makes them trustworthy. In my designs I try not to add any unnecessary details. I work with simplicity by highlighting the necessities instead of hiding them. It gives the product a simple and honest expression.”
