With a distinctive presence and brutalist aesthetic, the Atlas Stool is an architectural piece of contemporary design from New Works and visionary designer John Astbury. Referencing elements of classical buildings like porticoes and colonnades, alongside post-and-lintel constructions, Astbury has exaggerated the meeting between seat and legs, giving it a striking geometric silhouette. Whether used as a seat or side table, the Atlas is a striking standalone piece, suited to a wide variety of different spaces.

After completing his studies in anthropology and sociology in his native England, John Astbury then moved to Sweden to study product design at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design (Konstfack).
With his own design studio in Stockholm, Astbury is known for re-examining the fundamental elements of an archetype to explore what can be done differently; creating new poetic purpose and direction to drive design in an alternative direction.
