The Saarinen Tulip Tables and Chairs all share the advantage of their pedestal base, which gives the range its trademark silhouette. As opposed to traditional 4-legged tables the Tulip allows for more freedom of movement, with the form removing that which Saarinen referred to as the “unrestful world” beneath. In it's place stands a slim, elegant column. The base is available in white or black and you can choose from a range of sophisticated and unique natural solid marbles for the top. Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen (1910-1961) was incredibly influential in shaping the postwar American modern design movement. Born in Finland Eero Saarinen was the son of architect Eliel Saarinen, one of the founders of the Cranbrook Academy of Art.
Saarinen is best known for designing the Tulip dining table and tulip chairs as well as the Organic chair which he designed in collaboration with Charles Eames in 1940.
