Whether you’re looking for timeless furniture for the office or a unique dining set that will stand the test of time, the limited edition Prouvé RAW Office Edition collection will bring a touch of industrial sophistication to any home.
Introducing the Prouvé RAW Office Edition Collection
With many of G-Star's employees being fans of Prouvé’s work, it wasn't long before a project was initiated to kit out their new headquarters in Amsterdam with custom Prouvé furniture. One of these fans was G-Star's Global Brand Director Shubhanker Ray, who recognised another opportunity to work with Vitra after the success of the first limited edition Prouvé RAW project in 2011.
The latest collection was launched at the Milan Furniture Fair in 2015, followed by a celebratory UK launch party at the Vitra offices during Clerkenwell Design Week.
With its heavy-duty aesthetic and references to the vintage sage green of industrial machinery, the Prouvé RAW Office Edition collection stays true to the original design from the 1940s. However, with improved ergonomics and a sleeker appearance, the collection has been given a contemporary twist to complement any modern-day interior.
From solid oak to powder-coated steel, each piece from the collection is made from durable materials that will stand the test of time. Therefore, these limited edition designs can be passed through the family for generations to come, creating their own story as time goes by.
With people being considerably taller nowadays on average, the dimensions of the original designs have been updated to provide maximum comfort and ease of use for each product in the collection.
Jean Prouvé and the Original Collection
Great design isn't always about creating something new. From the most subtle of improvements to new colourways and fabrics, rejuvenated designs – such as those from this collection – accentuate the best elements from the original to suit the modern-day consumer.
The original collection was designed in the 1940s by Jean Prouvé for the offices of major French industrial companies. Born in 1901, Jean Prouvé was and continues to be widely respected for his knowledge of industrial materials and his constructive approach to design. He also designed letter openers, door and window fittings and vintage lamps, putting his knowledge to use across multiple disciplines. Despite passing away in 1984, his legacy continues to live on through his timeless designs and the knowledge that he transpired all those years ago.
