Initially launched in 1955 under the name of 'Model Yngve', the lounge chair was later named the Caryngo, reflecting the notable collaboration between two of Sweden's most influential names in design. A perfect demonstration of the balance between the two perspectives, the Caryngo was initially designed by Malmsten before Ekstrom refined the details. Characterised by a solid oak frame and a deep sloping backrest, the chair offers comfort and style with glossy leather upholstery on the back and seat. An eye-catching piece of design, the elegant composition and combination of materials add an element of playfulness to the otherwise traditional lounge chair.
Furniture designer, architect and educator, Carl Malmsten has crafted an extensive collection over time, founding an eponymous furniture store on the riverfront of Stockholm.
Yngve Ekstrom is best known for the influential Swedese Lamino Chair, designed in 1956. Ekstrom’s furniture designs appear in several permanent collections, including the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
