First introduced in 2009 and having remained a mainstay of the SCP collection since, the Oscar sofa is made in Britain using sustainable materials. By contrasting long straight lines with delicate curves, designer Matthew Hilton has created a piece that is both reserved and full of humility. The Oscar Two Seater Sofa is available in two heights, standard and formal, with the latter offering a higher seat with a more supportive upper. Available in a pair of striking colour ways, the Oscar is an impressive range that carries a real sense of the contrasting tones of modernity and heritage.
Born in 1957, British furniture designer Matthew Hilton studied at Portsmouth College of Art and then at Kingston Polytechnic. After graduating he worked for Capa as an industrial designer and model maker. He then went on to set up his own design studio/workshop in 1984. In 1986, SCP was the first designer furniture manufacturer to produce Hilton’s work. Several years on, SCP and Matthew Hilton continue to collaborate, producing modern furniture such as the SCP Oscar Sofa and Compass desk.
Matthew Hilton has since gone on to work with many international furniture manufacturers including CASE, Montis, Authentics and De La Espada.
