The renowned three-shade system, invented by Henningsen in 1926, is a design legacy that has stood the test of time. Following last year’s release of the amber coloured PH pendant light, Louis Poulsen have now released the Table Lamp in the same opulent colour; honouring Henningsen’s legacy of creating remarkable light designs.
Crafted from mouth-blown Italian glass, the shade has a glossy exterior surface with a matt white underside. Combined with the added benefit of light being able to pass through the three shades, light is distributed outwards in multiple directions, creating a gentle golden glow that creates a welcoming ambience and ignites feelings of warmth and comfort. The frame is made from untreated brushed brass, allowing for a unique patina to develop over time if the item is left unpolished, creating a beautifully aged aesthetic that will truly be one of a kind. Poul Henningsen’s initials are also engraved towards the bottom of the base by the through-switch, providing a celebratory finishing touch to the light’s iconic status. Even when the lamp is unlit, the attractive tiers and beautiful colour of the amber make it a visual delight in any room creating a retro feel that seamlessly incorporates into contemporary interiors.
Poul Henningsen is an integral figure in lighting design and architecture, whose revolutionary views on the utilisation of light in the home led to a number of ground-breaking designs.
Collaborating with Louis Poulsen in 1924/25, Henningsen produced the first version of the seminal PH multi-shade lamp, a classic piece of modern lighting design, featuring separate elements which are shaped and assembled in such a way that the bulb is covered and light is directed downward, creating a soft, diffused effect.
Henningsen was aware of the importance of light in urban life, but sought a way to subdue the harshness of electric light while harnessing its mood-altering properties, believing that the aesthetic of an interior is highly dependent on how light is used.
