From a simple squiggle on a sheet of paper came the Cross Check Arm Chair, one of the most distinctive and unusual pieces of furniture in the Knoll catalogue. Utilising Gehry's bentwood furniture concept, the Cross Check chair is a piece rich in heritage and makes for a genuine point of interest for any internal living or work space. In the conceiving of the Cross Check Chair Gehry looked to the surprising strength of the apple carts that he played on as a child, and drew inspiration from that familiar artifact of his youth. The ribbon-like design transcends the typical conventions of style by exploring the essential challenge of drawing form from function, following in the tradition of the great modernists of the 20th Century.
