Reinterpreting the traditional domestic floor lamp, the Vigo consists of an elegant elongated conical glass and metal shade; forming a contrasting aesthetic. Small intricate details such as the delicate hand-blown borosilicate glass, and subtle white band around the rim add to its distinctive character. A fabric-covered cord suspends the overlapping cones from a bold black metal stand, creating a characterful, contemporary design that can elegantly diffuse ambient light in a interior space. The Vigo is also available in a pendant version.
Born in 1953 in London, Sir David Chipperfield later studied at the Kingston School of Art and the Architectural Association in London.
After graduating, he established his own architectural practice in the early 1980s and went on to receive a multitude of awards and titles. These included becoming an Honorary Member of the Florence Academy of Art and Design, a Royal Designer for Industry (RDI) and receiving the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
One of his greatest successes was receiving the RIBA Royal Gold Medal for Architecture in 2011. Given in recognition of a lifetime’s work, the Royal Gold Medal is approved personally by Her Majesty the Queen.
