Founded in 1967, Nikari produces sustainable wooden designer furniture of exquisite quality. Master cabinet maker and designer Kari Virtanen founded Nikari and has collaborated with some of Finland's greatest modern architects and contemporary designers such as Alvar Aalto and Kaj Franck. For many decades his determination to concentrate on wood and its ecological benefits has given Nikari the greatest knowledge about Finnish wood and wooden treatment materials like oils, waxes and soaps.
The Nikari studio and workshop is located in the unique Fiskars village in south-west Finland, in the oldest machinery workshop in the country. The vast majority of the wood that Nikari use is sourced from a sawmill local to Fiskars, whose timber comes from nearby forests, tended with the same principles of sustainability and biodiversity that Nikari hold so close.
