Today we are delighted to introduce Niki Brantmark from My Scandinavian Home who has hand-selected her favourite items from Nest.
We also questioned her on her inspirations, her all-time favourite designers and what she thinks makes the perfect Scandinavian home. You can read the full interview and browse her hand-selected items below.
Hi Niki. What inspired you to start your blog, My Scandinavian Home?
Ever since I was a small child I’ve loved looking around homes. I used to find an excuse to go upstairs just to take a look around. So nosey! When I moved to Sweden I was in interiors heaven and it prompted me to start My Scandinavian Home as a moodboard of all the homes I see and love.
We know you are a fan of the Scandinavian aesthetic in interiors, but do you have a favourite designer associated with the style?
That’s a tricky question. Probably Hans J. Wegner. In his time, he designed over 500 chairs many of which are iconic pieces today.
What is your ‘must-have’ furniture or lighting item and why?
Right now I’m really into wall lights like the Flos 265 Wall Lamp. I love that it’s classic, cool and super practical too.
What makes the perfect Scandinavian home in your opinion?
In Scandinavia it gets so dark in the winter so maximising light is essential. White floors and walls and large windows looking out into the beautiful snowy countryside beyond help to brighten up the dark winters. The white is a perfect backdrop for beautiful, classic Scandinavian furniture.
Having lived in both England and Sweden, what would you say the major differences are in their interior styles? And which do you prefer?
Oh no, I could get myself into trouble here! Swedes tend to go for the more minimalist look with clean surfaces and minimum fuss. I have slowly adopted this style; there is something very beautiful about a simple, pared back home. When my Mum comes to stay she’s always saying ’but where’s all your stuff?!
What inspires you?
The outdoors, change, offbeat people and places, Pinterest, fabulous interior design blogs and magazines.
Out of all the social media platforms which one is your favourite?
I love the interior design blog world, it’s a wonderful social and supportive community and I’m really proud to be a part of it. I’m very addicted to Pinterest too.
