The Eames's first developed the ESU system in 1949, with the idea being to create a series of free-standing shelves and shelving units that would suit a variety of purposes. This particular iteration of the ESU series was developed by the Eames Office alongside Dutch designer Hella Jongerius, and was carefully produced with a new colour composition chosen to give the piece a fresh and contemporary look that remained respectful of the original design.
A number of ESU configurations are available from Vitra.
