Phil Cuttance is a New Zealand designer, who is based in London. After working as a furniture designer for many years in NZ, Cuttance set up his own practice in London in 2009.
Cuttance constructs all of his prototypes from scratch and values the hands-on creation process as a source of ideas and knowledge. He is interested in methods of making which endow products with visual clues about how they were made, and celebrating those visual markers, even sometimes when they would traditionally be seen as imperfections. He has exhibited work in Europe, USA , and Asia, and been recently commissioned by the likes of Dezeen and Icon magazine.
His Faceture project was nominated in the London Design Museum's 'Designs of the Year' awards in 2013.
