Anne Qvist believes that the starting-point of a new creation should be its purpose - the nature of the task. Also particularly important to Qvist is the collaborative element found in much of her work, as she respects that many forms of knowledge are required to create a great piece of design; “Design is a serious profession that involves many processes”.
Qvist’s work is also characteristic of her desire for modesty and scale. She wishes for her designs to suit a number of different contexts, and as a pragmatist herself, believes they should be used and function well. Qvist’s overall philosophy is that design should be human, and to mean something, for without meaning, her creations are just objects.
