At home with the Hackney Gardener
Step into the world of the “Hackney Gardener” Stina Hasan, the Swedish-born designer who has turned her modest city-centre garden space into the perfect urban hideaway.
The perfect example of how a well-planned approach can transform a space, regardless of size, Stina’s garden offers an oasis of calm in the middle of a bustling city, and can be found in a corner of West London. A tendency towards gardening crept up on Stina when she moved into her “forever home” in Hackney, who says, “When I found myself with a tiny plot of land in which to grow things, I realised how much I loved it”. One thing led to another, and Stina now writes online as the “Hackney Gardener”, and has amassed quite the following.
Stina’s garden features a number of perennial favourites from Danish lifestyle brand ferm LIVING. Liberally placed blankets and cushions provide acres of comfortable seating and lounging space, while refreshments can be enjoyed from the Ripple glass.
With its minimalist structure, the ferm LIVING Plant Box is one of the most instantly recognisable object in the whole ferm collection, and takes centre stage in Stina’s garden. Over the years the Plant Box has been produced in countless colour-ways and several different configurations, with the one that Stina has opted for featuring two-tiers, which serves a more compact space really well, thanks to the extra storage space that it provides. Suited to both indoors and outdoors use, the Plant Box is the kind of piece that instantly elevates any space or room.
Perfectly placed within Hasan’s garden sits the Desert Chair. Though only introduced a few years ago, the Desert chair stands as one of the most popular pieces in ferm LIVING’s range of outdoor goods (and sits perfectly well inside too!). Simply executed, and available in an array of finishes, the Desert Chair makes for a neat addition to ones garden, nook or chill out space, with its inviting aesthetic promising comfort.
