The quality of furnishings does not only manifest itself in large objects. It’s the small things - the various accessories, pictures, plants and mementos - that play a major role in our emotional attachment to the home. In recent decades only a few designers like Charles and Ray Eames, Alexander Girard and George Nelson, have been aware of this. Starting with the same ideas in the mid-twentieth century they created furnishings and equipment in which small things always had an important place. It is with this thought in mind that the Classic Trays should be viewed.

George Nelson read architecture at the renowned Yale University and completed his studies at the American academy in Rome. He was editor in chief of the 'Architectural Forum' from 1935 to 1944.
After having set up his own Architecture and Industrial design company in 1946, he began collaborating with Vitra in 1957. His pieces, such as the Coconut chair, his clocks and the Marshmallow Sofa, are regarded highly amongst the 20th Century design classics.
