The Tom Vac became an instant classic upon its introduction in 1999. Originally produced as part of an elaborate art exhibition at the Milan Design Week, Arad used the commission as an excuse to design his ultimate outdoor chair. The elegant plastic shell and powder-coated base offer a dynamic, comfortable seating experience, inviting you to sit back and relax within the curvaceous structure. The polypropylene shell is treated in a manner that means the fading of colour is slowed down considerably, making it a practical addition to a garden or sun-trap lounge space. Up to five chairs can be stacked together for storage purposes, making it especially useful in places where large numbers of chairs are required.
Israeli industrial designer, artist and architect Ron Arad was born in Tel Aviv in 1951. Educated at the Jerusalem Academy of Art and later at the Architectural Association in London, Ron Arad co-founded the design and production studio One Off in 1981 and later, in 1989, Ron Arad Associates architecture and design practice.
Ron Arad's constant experimentation with the possibilities of materials such as steel, aluminium or polyamide and his radical re-conception of the form and structure of furniture has put him at the forefront of contemporary furniture design.
