Shay Alkalay and Yael Mer from Raw Edges were fascinated by the transformations of different materials and shapes when parts of them have been dipped in a dye bath. This interest led to the development of a collection of unique items that all share the same irregular pattern, with the ceramic pieces dipped entirely by hand. The colourful Herringbone Bowl is perfect for acting as a decorative fruit bowl or for elegantly storing small accessories and personal belongings on a side table in a hallway or living room.
Raw Edges is the collaboration between designers, Yael Mer & Shay Alkalay. Yael’s main focus includes turning two-dimensional sheet materials into curvaceous functional forms, whereas Shay is fascinated by how things move, function and react. Following graduation from the Royal College of Art in 2006, they have received several highly respected awards including The British Council Talented Award, iF Gold Award and the Dutch Design Award. Others include, Wallpaper* Design Award 2009, the Elle Decoration International Design Award for best furniture of 2008-09 and awarded Designer of the Future for 2009 from Design Miami/ Basel.
