Boasting a perfectly curved frame with tapered legs, the Cherner Side Chair Fully Upholstered - Leather expertly embodies Norman Cherner's initial drawings. Originally designed in 1958, the simplistic yet sculptural piece applies plywood moulding technology to achieve the famous silhouette. Alongside the smooth oak veneer frame finish, luxurious leather upholstery showcases the iconic design while incorporating an extra level of comfort. The Camo Sierra Leather upholstery offers high durability, while its artful placement retains the stylish aesthetic and highlights the defining 'wasp waist' back of the chair.
Norman Cherner studied and taught at the Columbia University Fine Arts Department and was an instructor at the Museum of Modern Art in New York from 1947 to 1949. At the same time he also began his practice, embarking on a lifetime exploration of multidisciplinary design. Although best known for his furniture design, his work included almost all aspects of design: from graphics, glassware and lighting, to his pioneering work in prefabricated housing.
