In his use of form-bent solid birch for the unique construction of the Artek 406 Armchair, Aalto caused a minor revolution in the design world, and the effects can be felt some 80 years on from its introduction. Elegant, smooth curves form a naturally comfortable platform for the user, with over 20 metres of linen webbing employed for the seat itself. It's simple and timeless, and hyper-comfortable, and available in six different colourways.
As one of the great architects and furniture designers of the 20th century, Finnish designer Alvar Aalto breathed life and warmth into modernism, placing emphasis on "organic" geometry; supple, natural materials; and a respect for human feeling.
Alvar Aalto's collection of mid-century furniture and lighting is produced exclusively by Scandinavian brand Artek including the iconic Artek 60 Stool.
