Taking a step away from sharp angles and geometric shapes, Milan Design Week was dominated by fluid silhouettes, soft curves and plump upholstery. From oversized cushioning to bulbous shapes and forms, the ‘plump’ look is one that’s inviting, intriguing and rather unexpected.
A definite showstopper in the plump category was the Glider Sofa from Moroso, which features quilted spiral sides and a bold gradient fabric. Just as the name suggests, the Glider Sofa glides gently whilst someone is seated, which makes for a relaxing and unique experience.
In terms of lighting, the Brokis Memory Light was a strong talking point from the show. Inspired by the classic balloon and childhood memories, its rounded and playful form makes it one that you can’t help but touch.
Sleek curves and fluid forms also dominated the fair, from chairs and upholstery to lighting and home accessories.
The Magis Mila Chair by Jaime Hayon was a significant favourite from our team, which exudes Modernism in a contemporary plastic form. Highly expressive, the thick curved lines of its design appear to glide into one another, making for a very dynamic product.
