Vico unearths our innate desire to nest, to curl up in an organic shape and relax, without sacrificing the contemporary form, structure, and comfort which characterises Italian design.
Hayon thoroughly researched the heritage of Italian design and, by studying Cassina’s archives in particular from the 1950’s and 60’s, pinpointed several distinctive elements regarding the sofa to develop into a contemporary context. The result is a fluid design with Hayon’s own characteristic style and has been interpreted through a typical Cassina filter, making the piece more essential and less decorative than many of his previous projects.
Spanish artist and industrial designer Jaime Hayon was born in Madrid in 1974.
In 1997, he began working as a researcher at Fabrica, Benetton Group’s communication and research centre in Treviso, Italy. 2004 saw the start of Hayon’s individual career and he has kept himself busy with a spectrum of eclectic projects. From toys, to modern furniture and interior design as well as artistic installations, his boldness has been to transcend the borders of the often separated worlds of art and design, comfortably bridging the two whilst embedding them with his own unique style.
